What happens if an item was purchased with the Category Choice Gift Card and needs to be returned?

Each merchant will handle returns as per their own policies and may issue a cash refund or store credit. A merchant may also choose to return the refund amount onto the card.

Are there any fees for using the Category Choice Gift Card or checking the Gift Card balance or transaction history?

There are no fees associated with checking card balance or transaction history.

A Currency Conversion fee of 3.5% applies for foreign currency transactions. This conversion fee amount is calculated at time of purchase, and the balance of your card must be sufficient to cover both the purchase and currency conversion fee..

Where can I use my Category Choice Pets & Vets Gift Card?

The Category Choice Pets & Vets Gift Card can be used at the following merchant category locations: Veterinary Services (0742), Pet Shop, Pet Foods, Supplies Stores (5995) & Pet Insurance (single purchase, not available for installment/recurring payments) (6300)

Do I receive change on a Category Choice Gift Card transaction?

No.  The Gift Card can be used until the balance reaches a nil value, no matter how small the balance.

What if the value of the purchase I want to make is greater than the value/balance on the Category Choice Gift Card?

In-store purchases: If your purchase is larger than your balance, ask the cashier to swipe the gift card for the exact amount available on the card. Then pay the remaining balance with another form of payment. These are called “split transactions.” Some merchants do not allow cardholders to carry out split transactions. Some merchants will only allow you to do a split transaction if you pay the remaining amount in cash.

Online purchases:  Online merchants don’t have the capabilities to perform split credit transactions

What happens if I have not used all the funds when the Category Choice Gift Card expires?

Whatever value is left on the Gift Card after its expiry will not be available to you. We encourage you to use your Gift Card before it expires.

Does Category Choice Gift Cards expire?

Yes, on your physical card the expiry is printed of the front of the card. eGift cards expire 3 years from date of purchase.

Can Category Choice Gift Card be reloaded with value?

No, these Gift Cards cannot be re-loaded.

Do I have to spend the entire amount of the Category Choice Gift Card in a single purchase?

No. Gift Cards are partially redeemable.  Within the Gift Card’s validity period, any available balance can be used for multiple purchases at any participating merchant.

Can I see a list of transactions made with the Category Choice Gift Card?

Yes, you can view your Gift Card balance and transaction history at www.cardbalance.com.au 

How can I check the Category Choice Gift Card available balance?

You can check your Gift Card balance at www.categorychoice.com.au by selecting ‘Card Balance’ from this website’s navigation menu or by calling 1800 985 841.  You will then be prompted to enter the PCN Number located on the back of the Gift Card.  The resulting search will show the available balance remaining and expiry date, as well as the most recent transaction summary.

Is the balance updated automatically?

Yes. Each time you use a Category Choice Gift Card, the purchase amount is automatically deducted from the Card balance. If the transaction is declined the funds are not deducted as there is not enough balance to allow the transaction to be completed.

Can I use Category Choice Gift Cards to get cash out of the ATM?

No, Category Choice Gift Cards cannot be used to withdraw cash at ATM or EFTPOS facilities.

Do I need to register my Category Choice gift card to make purchases?

Yes, your Category Choice gift card must be registered via the registration link on the email you receive to use your Gift Card. You will not be provided with card details until the card has been registered.

When registering your Category Choice Gift Card, we require information, including name, email address and phone number of the cardholder be verified prior to making purchases.

 

I’m having trouble paying with my Apple, Samsung, or Google mobile wallet, what should I do?

Make sure the card details are correct by double-checking that what you’ve entered exactly matches your card number, expiry date and CVV. If you still can’t complete a contactless payment, try again with the below tips or reach out to the wallet provider directly for further assistance.
i) Make sure your phone is awake and unlocked.
ii) Hold your phone in a different way. Your NFC antenna could be near the top or middle of your device.
iii) Hold your phone closer to the payment reader.
iv) Hold your phone close to the payment reader for a few more seconds.

How do I add my Category Choice Gift Card to my mobile wallet?

Category Choice Gift Cards can be added to your Apple, Samsung, or Google mobile wallet. To add your Category Choice Gift Card to your mobile wallet please visit the mobile wallet section in the menu bar for the relevant wallet provider information on how to add to wallet.

Apple, Google, and Samsung Wallets have limits to the total number of cards a user can have in their wallet at any one time, and they also have their own security process that may stop a user from being able to add a card to their digital wallet. Category Choice Gift Cards has no discretion on these security controls put in place by Apple, Google, or Samsung Wallets.

 

My Category Choice Gift Card is not working online

Some merchants may choose not to accept prepaid gift cards, Category Choice Gift Cards has no discretion upon any merchant’s decision. Some online merchants that require 3D Secure verification (3DS) will not process the transaction as Visa prepaid gift cards do not support 3DS.

Can Category Choice Gift Cards be used to make purchases online?

Yes, Category Choice Gift Cards can be used online

 Enter the card information (Card number, expiry date and CVV) in the credit/debit card section and please ensure the current balance of the Category Choice Gift Card is enough for the entire purchase as most online merchants cannot accept the combination of an Category Choice Gift Card and a Credit Card.

 

Can I use my Category Choice Gift Card for reoccurring payments?

A recurring payment is when you provide your card details for an ongoing payment, and a charge is made to that card on a recurring basis (such as a monthly insurance payment, or a monthly gym membership). Visa doesn’t not allow prepaid gift cards to be used for reoccurring payments. Some online merchants may setup their payment type as “reoccurring payment” Category Choice Gift Cards has no discretion on what payment type the merchant selects.

Can I use the Category Choice Gift Card outside of Australia?

Yes. A Currency Conversion fee of 3.5% applies for foreign currency transactions. This conversion fee amount is calculated at time of purchase, and the balance of your card must be sufficient to cover both the purchase and currency conversion fee. Please note that some countries may have limits and restrictions on accepting prepaid Visa gift cards.

Is the physical Card required to be used at the Payment PIN pad to authorise my purchase when using a Category Choice Gift Card?

The retailer must use the PIN pad provided when redeeming a Category Choice Gift Card for goods or services as directed by the POS terminal. If you’ve already added your Category Choice Gift Card to your mobile wallet, then you will not require your physical card.

How do I use my Category Choice Gift Card in-store?

Your Category Choice Gift Card works the same as a Visa debit card. It can be used in-store, online and added to your mobile wallet.

To redeem your Category Choice Gift Card in-store:

  1. Simply add your Category Choice gift card to your mobile wallet.
  2. Using contactless payment present your device for payment at the terminal and enter PIN if prompted.

If the value of the purchase is more than the amount of the gift card, you can supplement the additional value with cash or another payment method that is accepted by the merchant.
